Giving Flint's children a healthy future

Michigan State University and Hurley Children's Hospital are working together to address the Flint community's population-wide lead exposure and help all Flint children grow up healthy and strong.

Through community and clinical programs, childhood health policy and advocacy, and robust evaluation, the MSU-Hurley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative works with many partners, including Flint's heroic parents and kids, as a center of excellence, with the primary goal of mitigating the impact of the Flint water crisis and serving as a national resource for best practices.

Rx Kids

Led by Dr. Mona Hanna at the Pediatric Public Health Initiative, Rx Kids is a bold effort to address child poverty and health equity. All pregnant moms and all babies born in 2024 in the City of Flint will receive unconditional cash prescriptions - a one-time mid-pregnancy allowance of $ 1,500 and $500 per month for 12 months when the baby is born. Having a baby and raising a child is hard; Rx Kids is a commitment of love and support to Flint families during this maternal-infant period when families struggle the most and child development is the most critical.
